Research & Development at the FFHS

The FFHS conducts application-oriented research and development and provides services for third parties. Through targeted knowledge and technology transfer, it ensures the link between science and industry. On the one hand, it fulfils the requirements of the federal government and, on the other hand, it can continuously integrate the results of research and development into teaching- be it in the form of special subjects, further training courses or case studies.

The Institute for Distance Learning and eLearning Research (IFeL)

The Institute for Distance Learning and eLearning Research (IFeL) investigates the use of modern technologies in learning. The interdisciplinary team of the IFeL consists of social and computer scientists and cooperates with national and international partners. It follows a design-based research methodology and focuses on emotions in reading and learning. Since autumn 2016, the institute has held the UNESCO Chair for Personalized and Adaptive Distance Learning and, in this context, examines framework conditions and implementation concepts for personalized and adaptive learning.

Laboratory for Web Science (LWS)

The Laboratory for Web Science (LWS) is a joint research unit of the Fernfachhochschule Schweiz (FFHS) and the Information Systems and Networking Institute (ISIN) of SUPSI. The FFHS concentrates on the research fields Data Science and GeoHealth Analytics.

Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI)

IMI conducts application-oriented research and development, applied basic research and consulting in the field of management and innovation.

Research at the Department of Health

The Department of Health conducts application-oriented research and development in the field of health promotion as well as services and consulting. In terms of content, research is currently dedicated specifically to the topic of nutrition, for which the first research field was established in 2019. Further research activities are dedicated to health promotion through physical activity.
