Career

Egon Werlen has been working at the FFHS at the Institute for Research in Open, Distance and eLearning (IFeL) since 2011 and at the UNESCO Chair on Personalised and Adaptive Distance Education since its foundation in 2016. Since 2017, he has been head of the research field «Emotions, Reading and Learning». Previously, he worked at the Centre for Rehabilitation and Health Psychology Research at the University of Fribourg (CH), where he obtained his PhD. Moreover, he is a Specialist Psychologist in Health Psychology FSP. His research activities focus on emotion analytics, in particular the measurement of emotions and cognitions in students' texts. His other research topics include self-regulated, personalised, adaptive and technology-based learning. He is a member of the FFHS Ethics Committee and the Ethics Committee of the Swiss Psychological Society. At the FFHS, he lectures in statistics/methodology, human-computer interaction and health psychology.
